Scenes and 3D data

The process of creating, publishing, and managing scenes involves different parts of ArcGIS. This table summarizes these tasks and provides links to help topics with more information. It assumes that you have a base ArcGIS Enterprise deployment and ArcGIS Pro available to you.

TasksInformation and instructionsTips

Create a scene in ArcGIS Pro.

See Scenes in the ArcGIS Pro help.

Configure the scene in ArcGIS Pro.

See Author a web scene in the ArcGIS Pro help.

Publish a web scene to the ArcGIS Enterprise portal.

See Publish scenes.

Connect to the portal as a member of a role that has privileges to create content and publish hosted feature and scene layers.

Open a hosted scene layer in Scene Viewer and modify the scene.

See Get started with scenes.

Use a web browser that supports WebGL.

Create and publish an elevation layer.

Scene Viewer in the ArcGIS Enterprise portal contains a default World Elevation Service from ArcGIS Online. However, if you have higher-resolution data you want to use, you can add your custom elevation surface to a scene in ArcGIS Pro, and publish a web scene to create an elevation layer in your portal. See Elevation surfaces in the ArcGIS Pro help.

If your portal is not connected to the internet and you need to publish and set your own default elevation service for Scene Viewer, see Configure default elevation surface in the portal administrator guide for instructions.
