Link to items

Content items, search results, and groups can be accessed directly by a URL. This means you can link to a details page, map, list of search results, or group by copying and pasting the URL that appears in the address bar of your web browser, for example, https://webadaptorhost.domain.com/webadaptorname/home/webmap/viewer.html?webmap=35c2e978623849a098acd04f9dfbfb4d. Using direct URLs allows you to promote items in your portal through email and your organization's website.

Link to the item page

  1. Click the name of the item you want to link to.

    The item page opens.

  2. Copy the URL that appears in the web browser address bar and paste the URL into an email or website.

Link to search results

  1. Use search to display a list of results.
  2. Copy the URL that appears in the web browser address bar and paste the URL into an email or website.
  3. Follow the steps below to manually create a URL of search results.
    1. Start with the portal website; the URL will be formatted https://<fully_qualified_domain_name>/<context_name>. For example, if the machine name is wa with the domain myorg.net and your context name is gis, the URL is https://wa.myorg.net/gis.
    2. Add a reference to the path of the file: /home/search.html?.
    3. Add your query and query type as q=<search string>&t=<content or group> (for example, q=streets&t=content).
    4. Add &content=all if you want the search results to include ArcGIS files such as layer packages.

In this example, your complete URL is https://wa.myorg.net/gis/home/search.html?q=streets&t=content&content=all.

Link to a group

  1. Open a group page.
  2. On the Overview tab, click the Link button Link and copy the provided short URL to share the group through email, instant message, or other media. You can also use the provided buttons to post the group to your Facebook and Twitter accounts (if your organization is configured to show social media links on item and group pages), embed the group, and create a gallery app.
  3. Alternatively, you can manually create a URL to the group:
    1. Start with the portal website; the URL will be formatted https://<fully_qualified_domain_name>/<context_name>. For example, if the machine name is wa with the domain myorg.net and your context name is gis, the URL is https://wa.myorg.net/gis.
    2. Add a reference to the path of the file: /home/group.html?.
    3. Add the ID of the group: id=<ID of the group> (for example, id=29a90c74425e467d8379a6de3c5aaee0). Alternatively, you can add the owner and group name: owner=<owner name>&title=<group name> (for example, owner=ArcGISTeamLocalGov&title=ArcGIS for Local Government).
      Tip:

To get the group ID, open the group and copy the id=<ID of the group> part of the URL that appears in the web browser address bar.

    4. Add &content=all if the group contains ArcGIS files. This option will show ArcGIS files shared to the group.

In this example, your complete group page URL is https://wa.myorg.net/gis/home/group.html?id=29a90c74425e467d8379a6de3c5aaee0&content=all or https://wa.myorg.net/gis/home/group.html?owner=ArcGISTeamLocalGov&title=ArcGIS for Local Government&content=all.
