Software upgrades provide an organization with a new version of the software, with new features, improved functionality, and sometimes a different look and feel. An upgrade typically moves the software from one version to another (such as from 11.4 to 11.5), though it will require a sequential upgrade to include other intermediate versions (such as from 11.2 to 11.5). When performing an upgrade, the upgrade process will also include other available updates, as applicable, that have become available between software releases.
Upgrade your organization
When a new version of ArcGIS Enterprise on Kubernetes is released, the option to upgrade your software is available in ArcGIS Enterprise Manager. The process of upgrading the organization automatically includes all available software updates to ensure the organization is up to date with the latest stability and performance enhancements.
If you use ArcGIS Enterprise on Kubernetes Web Adaptor, follow the steps in Upgrade ArcGIS Enterprise on Kubernetes Web Adaptor to upgrade it to a new version.
Note:
Before performing an upgrade, you must review upgrade requirements.
To upgrade to a new released version, follow these steps:
- Sign in to ArcGIS Enterprise Manager as an administrator.
- At the bottom of the navigation sidebar, click Updates.
The Software updates page appears.
The top of the page displays your organization's current software version and the last time it was updated. If a new version of the software is available, the Upgrade button is available.
- Click Upgrade to upgrade your organization to the latest software release.
Before proceeding with an upgrade, a full system backup is recommended. This will allow you to restore your organization to its previous state as necessary.
- Click Continue to begin the upgrade process.
Detailed status updates are shown on the dialog box until the upgrade is complete.
- Clear your browser's cache (including cookies).
Information in the cache from the previous version of the website may cause the upgraded organization to display incorrectly, and you may not be able to sign in. It's recommended that you clear the cache on all browsers that will view the upgraded organization (including ArcGIS Enterprise Manager and your ArcGIS Enterprise portal).
The following table summarizes the possible result states of a completed upgrade operation.
| Result state | Meaning |
|---|---|
| success | No action necessary, all configuration changes and deployment refreshes completed successfully and the organization is ready for use. |
| success_with_warnings | The operation experienced some non-critical failures. An administrator should review the logs and messages to determine the areas of impact and validate impact to organization functionality. One common cause is shared service deployments taking longer than thirty minutes to refresh, which may self-correct given enough time. |
| failure | One or more critical stages failed and any backups created after this point should be considered invalid. The organization should be undeployed, deployed and configured, and restored from a backup created before this point in time. |
Note:
If you encounter a failure while performing an upgrade, review tips for troubleshooting.
To ensure your organization runs smoothly once the upgrade to a new version is complete, review post-upgrade considerations and take any relevant steps.
