Configure image hosting

You can use hosted imagery layers to manage and share raster and imagery data in your organization. You can also manage large collections of imagery and include imagery layers in hosted apps and maps.

License:

To configure image hosting, you must have an ArcGIS Image Services on Kubernetes license. This license does not include the functionality available from the raster analytics premium capability.

Introduction to image hosting

Hosted imagery layers are different from raster tile layers. Raster tile layers support visualization of imagery and raster data but do not support analysis. Hosted imagery layers allow access to the imagery or raster data, including pixel or cell values across multiple raster bands, and multidimensional data.

Additionally, verify that your administrator has allocated sufficient resource quota and worker nodes to support this premium capability.

Configure image hosting

Image hosting allows you to host your own imagery to share in applications within your organization. Hosted imagery layers can be used to maintain a series of images to see change over time or provide custom visualization options.

The following configuration steps may require changes to the way you've deployed ArcGIS in your organization; review them carefully before proceeding. Before using image hosting, you must add supporting raster stores and configure it as a capability in ArcGIS Enterprise Manager.

  1. Ensure that your organization has both of the required raster stores: one cloud store and one relational store.

The cloud store is used to store imagery that is added to the organization and the results of any raster analysis tools. When your organization is deployed in a cloud environment, it is recommended to use a cloud storage service from the same cloud provider. The relational store is used for storing mosaic datasets while creating a hosted imagery layer or when a raster analysis tool generates a collection output. See Manage raster stores for information on how to add a raster store.

  2. In ArcGIS Enterprise Manager, click the Capabilities button in the sidebar.

    The capabilities page appears.

  3. Turn on the Image hosting toggle button.

You are prompted with a message that indicates the process to enable may take some time.

  4. Click Enable.

A request to enable image hosting is submitted. This process will validate prerequisites and activate supporting resources. The following system services will be automatically started:

    • RasterAnalysisTools
    • RasterProcessing
    • RasterRendering

If the capability fails to enable, repeat the above steps to ensure that the raster data store has been added and the image server license is valid. Review the logs to identify the requirements for this capability.

Image hosting is now configured. You can publish hosted imagery layers in your organization.
