Save a scene

You can create new scenes or make copies of existing scenes and save them as Web Scene items in My content. To start, ensure that you have the privilege to create content. (If you don't have this privilege, you can still view scenes, but you can't edit or save them.)

When you save scenes, you can save all the elements you added to them, including layer configurations and slides. You can also share the scenes and layers with others in your organization or with everyone (public). By default, the scenes you save are not shared with anyone else.

Save a new scene

Create a scene and save it in My content. You can also make a copy of a scene shared with you, add your changes, and save it as a new scene in My content.

To save a scene, do the following:

  1. Verify that you are signed in to your organization and click Scene at the top of the website.

    Scene Viewer appears.

  2. Click New scene.
  3. On the Designer (dark) toolbar, click SaveSave to open the Save scene window.

A blue dot indicates that there are unsaved changes in the scene.

  4. When you are saving a new scene, whether it's the first time or saving a copy of an existing scene, follow the steps below:
    1. In the Title text box, provide a name for the scene.
    2. In the Summary text box, provide a brief summary of the scene.
    3. In the Tags text box, provide terms that will help others find the scene.
  5. All scenes are saved in My content.
    Note:

If you are a member of a group that allows group members to update all items in the group (item update capability), you can save the scene to that group.

When you save a new scene or make a copy of a scene, the Save current state as initial scene state (see state) and Save as new scene options are selected by default; they cannot be deselected.

Once you save the scene, the next time you save, you can check or uncheck these options.

  6. Click Save.

To change the thumbnail before saving the scene, click Cancel and edit the scene for the thumbnail. Proceed from step 4 above to save the web scene with the new thumbnail image.

A confirmation Web Scene saved message appears. Click View item details to open the new web scene's item page.

Modify and save a scene

Make a copy of an existing scene when you want to change configurations, content, layer settings, and save as a new scene, which you can share with others without affecting the original scene. You can open an existing scene from the Content page, make changes, and save your changes to that scene.

  1. Verify that you are signed in to your organization.
  2. Locate the web scene you need to modify and save it as a new scene.

See Browse and search content for information about how to locate content.

  3. When you locate the web scene, click the Options button Options and choose Open in Scene Viewer.

Scene Viewer appears and displays the web scene.

  4. On the Designer toolbar, click SaveSave to open the Save scene menu.
  5. Click Refresh Refresh to update the web scene item thumbnail to capture the current view.
  6. All scenes are saved in My content.
    Note:

If you are a member of a group that allows group members to update all items in the group (item update capability), you can save the scene to that group.

  7. Check Save current state as initial scene state to save the current view of the scene. If you do not check this option, the next time you open the scene, it will open to the last initial scene state you saved.
  8. Leave Save as new scene unchecked.
  9. Click Save Save.

A confirmation Web Scene saved message appears. Click View item details to open the new web scene's item page.
